Considering joining the Book Club?
Language Signs & Calming Signs of Horses
by Dr. Rachaël Draaisma
Some background on why this book is featured in the Book Club:
- In a research project I'm doing with students to understand more about the "why" Equine-assisted services are effective, we are using the Calming Signals Dr. Draaisma identified
- I had been following Dr. Draaisma's work earlier in the year when I was really fortunate that she provided two courses over 4 days, just one hour from my small town.
- Spending time learning from her directly, I was able to see her expertise in action (and, did I mention Kansas has wind?).
- Even as someone who studies these things as an academic and have my own horses, I learned how my body was signaling to horses that "I needed a moment," but I thought I was saying, "come closer."
- From an academic standpoint, I knew her work would support my research, but it was my personal experience in her helping me communicate better with my horses that convinced me I needed to learn as much as she is willing to teach.
- So, I'm hosting a Book Club in the Fall and she will provide a webinar on December 8th at 12:30 Central.
Looking forward to learning together! Additional details:
